Artist Bio
David Peter Kemp was born in Paddington, NSW in 1988. Kemp’s initial art works were produced in a vast range of mediums including; watercolours, pencil, pastel & charcoal, he now however works almost exclusively in oil painting & photography. David began painting in oils in 2003 under the tuition of Peter Findlay (Panorama Art Group).
Kemp has received many awards, most notably: The Kym Bonython Award' - The Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society of South Australia Sep 2012, Multiple ‘Youthscape’ Awards including 1st place Painting 2004 & 1st place photographic entries 2012, 2014 - Royal South Australian Society of the Arts (RSASA). In 2013 Kemp was awarded a scholarship at ‘The Art Academy’ Instructed under the prominent Australian hyperrealist artist - Robin Eley.
In pursuit of the advancement of his technical skills; in particular working from life, Kemp completed multiple short courses at the Florence Academy of Art in 2019. This experience had a profound impact on his artistic approach and he continues to incorporate this way of working in his daily practice.
His more recent photographic works explore pared back/minimalist themes, with a underlying geometric focus. He currently lives & works in Adelaide South Australia.
